Treasury bonds are a financial instrument, through which the State Treasury will generate additional funding required to finance the budget deficit. Sale of bonds is tantamount with a loan being extended by the buyers to the State Treasury. Such loan is repaid together with interest at a date or dates, in the manner and time set forth in the terms and conditions of bonds issue.
Treasury bonds are the safest type of instrument available to individual investors. Repurchase of bonds is guaranteed by the State, profit is certain and the amount of it is usually related with inflation rate. Moreover, if the bonds are listed on the stock exchange, investor can withdraw from his/her investment at any time by selling the bonds on the stock exchange (retaining interest due up to the transaction settlement date) and will also have an opportunity of regularly checking the value of his/her investment made. Moreover, the bonds may be used by the investor as a pledge to obtain credit - this is because there is almost no risk associated with insolvency of the issuer.
